The beach of Gouves is the sandy beach in front of the village Kato Gouves, a popular and well developed tourist resort, some 18 kilometres far from Heraklion at the East. Open to the Cretan Sea, the beach is affected by the northern winds. Fully organised and very close to Heraklion, the beach offers full accommodation facilities in many hotels of any kind and category, food and drink in several fish taverns, restaurants, beach bars and cafes. Facilities for swimming and sunbathing (sunbeds, umbrellas ) and sea sports are also available on the beach. The short distance (approximately 2 kilometer) from the beaches of Gournes and Chani Kokkini at the West and Analipsi at the East provide good alterntives for swimming. Just outside of Gouves, you will be able to find the “Rainbow Bar”, an excellent place to visit, if you like to enjoy good food. The “Rainbow bar” is also the perfect spot if you like to watch (international) football.
